The Past and Beyond

Large and well-known corporations often establish foundations to implement their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Similarly, the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), a membership-based organization of electronics engineers, founded the IECEP Foundation, which was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January 1997.

The IECEP Foundation serves as the social outreach arm of IECEP, a Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)-accredited organization for electronics engineers. Its creation was made possible by the generosity of its members, the diligent payment of annual dues by approximately 5,000 members in the 1990s, and the prudent financial management of the organization’s leadership.

The Foundation’s vision and mission center on advancing knowledge in emerging electronic technologies among its regular members through continuing professional education while also fostering the skills development of underprivileged individuals in society.

In 2001, the IECEP-Cebu Chapter’s Technical Training Committee partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Regional Office VII to offer short-course/modular training programs. These included courses in Electronics Servicing, Computer Technician, Programmable Logic Controllers, Fiber Optics Splicing, and more.

To further the Foundation’s mission, financially capable IECEP members have generously offered cash donations. Others have proposed partnerships for accredited training programs, sharing the associated costs with IECEP. Additionally, companies with annual CSR budgets have sought IECEP’s expertise to organize bootcamp training sessions, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to social and professional development.

Ultimately, the success of any organization depends on the active participation and unwavering support of its members. The IECEP Foundation exemplifies how a shared vision and collaborative spirit can drive meaningful impact.
